Market Forecast

For the week ending June 21, 2025

Apples

The apple market is expected to remain stable through the rest of June and into July. While overall supply is steady, some varieties—particularly Honeycrisp, Cosmic Crisp, and, to a lesser extent, Golden Delicious—are experiencing tighter availability. At this time, no supply gaps are anticipated between the end of the old crop and the start of the new season.

ASPARAGUS

Domestic supplies remain limited to Michigan through the end of June. The market is expected to stay steady this week, supported by consistent production from Mexico and Peru. We are currently stocking & shipping Michigan asparagus.

AVOCADO

Markets have stabilized as Mexico slows its harvest. Offshore fruit is available on both coasts, with 48ct and smaller sizes in better supply. Larger fruit remains limited. About 3–4 weeks remain in the Normal crop before Flora Loca begins. Meanwhile, the California season is in full swing.

Berries

Blueberries

California production is beginning to taper off as the Central Valley winds down for the season. In Georgia, output remains limited due to adverse weather and elevated temperatures. North Carolina has started harvesting, but growers are contending with multiple rain events impacting volume and consistency. The Pacific Northwest is still projected to begin at the end of June, weather permitting. Meanwhile, some West Coast shippers are experiencing supply gaps as the California season wraps up and the PNW season remains about three weeks out.

Raspberries

Demand remains soft while production holds steady, with product currently coming out of Mexico and California’s Central Coast. Supplies are expected to improve heading into late June as warmer weather supports increased production.

Blackberries

The blackberry market remains stable, with fair supplies currently coming out of California, Mexico, and Georgia. As temperatures rise in the coming weeks, California production is expected to improve.

Strawberries

Production in Salinas and Watsonville continues to be limited due to the cooler temperatures experienced over the past several weeks. Growers are reporting only modest yield increases compared to last week. In Santa Maria, overall production is naturally declining as the region moves well beyond its peak season. Some older plantings are being diverted to processing instead of the fresh market, shifting more demand to northern regions and helping to keep markets firm.

Broccoli, Cabbage, & Cauliflower

Broccoli

Broccoli supplies remain strong in the Salinas Valley, Santa Maria, and Central Mexico. Expect consistent quality and steady pricing heading into next week.

BRUSSEL SPROUTS

Brussels sprout supplies continue to improve this week, with the market expected to trend lower heading into next week.

Cauliflower

Cauliflower supplies remain excellent out of the Salinas Valley, Santa Maria, and Central Mexico. The market is expected to remain steady heading into next week.

Carrots

Harvest has resumed in the Bakersfield region following the completion of the Desert Imperial Valley season. Sizing remains strong and consistent. Grimmway’s production in Lake Park, GA has officially concluded.

Citrus

LEMONS

Markets remain strong overall, with 165 count and smaller sizes still slightly tight. District 1 (San Joaquin Valley) is nearing completion with about one week remaining, as District 2 (Ventura County/Oxnard) transitions into the primary growing region.

LIMES

The market continues to trend downward, particularly on small to medium sizes, with pricing nearing the bottom for 250s and 230s. A lack of rainfall in Veracruz is contributing to a shortage of larger sizes, though upcoming rain could help improve sizing. Colombia and Peru remain active, but both volume and quality are currently below normal levels.

GRAPEFRUIT

Star Ruby are in current supply. Peaking at 40ct and larger sizes are being shipped from Riverside and the San Joaquin Valley.  Star Ruby are known for deep red-pink flesh and sweet-tart flavor. These grapefruits are generally smaller than other grapefruit varieties and have a smooth, yellow-orange rind with a red blush when ripe. The flesh is juicy and tender, with a high juice content and a slightly acidic, tangy flavor.

ORANGES

The Navel season is nearly complete, with Valencias expected to ramp up to full production within the next week. Valencias are currently peaking on 113ct and 138ct as the season begins, with sizing expected to improve as the season progresses. Gas times are currently running 24–48 hours to enhance color. Brix levels are ranging between 11–13, and the fruit is eating exceptionally well.

CELERY

Supplies continue to outpace demand, a trend expected to persist through the rest of the week.. All size options remain readily available from Salinas as well as Santa Maria/Oxnard, with good quality consistently being reported across the board.

Cucumbers

Supplies and quality remain strong across multiple regions, with particularly good volume coming out of Baja. New Jersey and other Eastern growing areas are set to begin harvest soon, further boosting availability. Consistent supply is expected to continue as production from the U.S. and Mexico overlaps.

Eggplant

Steady supplies are coming out of both Georgia and California, with Georgia just beginning its harvest and North Carolina expected to start in late June. Consistent availability is anticipated from both coasts as the season progresses.

Garlic

Garlic quality from Mexico remains fair, with moderate yields expected to continue into next week.

GRAPES

Tropical Storm Alvin passed through the growing regions of Sonora on May 31st, dropping up to an inch of rain in some areas. The storm had a significant impact on the new crop Flames, which were set to begin harvest on Monday, June 2nd. Early estimates indicate a 35–50% loss in Flame volume due to severe damage. Green seedless grapes, already in tight supply, were further affected as harvest was delayed for three days, pushing availability even farther behind. Fortunately, the Greens did not suffer the same extent of damage as the Flames. Supply is expected to gradually improve throughout the month; however, market pricing is likely to remain firm until the Bakersfield harvest begins in the first week of July.

GREENs

NOW STOCKING & SHIPPING: MICHIGAN COLLARDS, MUSTARD GREEN, TURNIP GREEN.

GREEN ONIONS

Green onion supplies and quality remain strong, with the market expected to stay steady through next week.

Lettuce, ARUGULA & GREENS

ICEBeRG

Good availability for this commodity is expected to continue throughout the week. Some shippers in both Northern and Southern California are offering flexible pricing on volume orders. Weights are ranging from 39 to 44 pounds. There have been minimal reports of slight misshapen heads and minor outer leaf discoloration. Overall, supplies will exceed demand, making this an ideal product to promote all week.

LEAF

The market has firmed up on romaine and romaine hearts, while green and red leaf remain steady. There have been minimal reports of slight fringe and tip burn across all leaf varieties. Demand has increased slightly, and weights and sizing continue to be above average from multiple shippers.

Tender Leaf: Cilantro, Arugula & Spinach

All lettuce tender leaf varieties are in good supply with excellent overall quality. Fields are showing more consistent sizing, along with strong texture and vibrant color. Expect supplies and quality to remain steady through the weekend.

KALE

Kale supplies and quality continue to be strong this week, with steady conditions expected to carry into next week.

MELONS

CANTALOUPE

The cantaloupe market is strong, driven by recent retail promotions. The domestic season is now underway, featuring excellent quality with favorable Brix levels. A good sizing profile and solid availability are being reported. By the end of the month, production will transition from the desert regions to Central California.

Honeydew

The honeydew market is strong, supported by recent retail promotions. Mexican cantaloupes from Nogales are currently available, offering improved sizing and availability. Domestic honeydews are also on the market, showcasing excellent Brix levels.

WATERMELON

Domestic watermelons are currently available in Florida and are expected to begin in California by the end of June. Mexican watermelons remain in good supply amid low demand. We are currently stocking and shipping US southern region watermelons.

ONION

Onions are currently available from California and New Mexico. In California, the desert season is wrapping up this week as supplies transition to Central California. The New Mexico U.S. crop is set to begin the week of June 9, 2025. Meanwhile, onion seasons in Texas and Georgia are winding down. Mexico will continue production through the end of June, with contracts available in CMS.

Pears

The domestic pear market remains stable, with red pears nearing the end of their season. Market conditions are expected to stay largely unchanged until mid-July, when California’s new Bartlett crop becomes available.

Peppers (Bell)

Supply is strong, mostly from Georgia, with fair quality. North Carolina is expected to start in late June, while California desert supply remains light. Western production will shift to Bakersfield and Coachella in the coming weeks.

Pineapples

Pineapple supplies are improving with new fields coming online in Costa Rica. Large crownless pineapples remain in high demand. Minimal substitution is expected in the weeks ahead.

Potatoes

The market is steady, but 40-70 count potatoes will remain tight until August. Burbank potatoes are available all summer. FOB pricing is stable, with delivered pricing driving the market. New Eastern Idaho plantings will be harvested starting mid-August. Red and yellow potato prices are rising, and distributors are open to California Color pricing.

Stone fruit

Yellow and white peaches and nectarines are in good supply, with larger and improved varieties arriving weekly. Plum volumes are increasing as the season progresses. The California cherry season is nearly complete, while Washington’s crop has begun, showing a strong size profile peaking in the 10–10.5 row range.

Squash

New crops in North Carolina, New Jersey, and Washington are boosting supply, while Georgia is winding down. Out west, Nogales, Baja, Santa Maria, and Washington remain active. Zucchini quality is strong, though yellow squash is more variable. Availability and consistency are expected to improve further as more local seasons begin in July.

Tomatoes

Roma supply is shifting from Florida to Georgia and soon California, with Mexico winding down. Consistent volumes are expected by mid-summer. Rounds from South Georgia and North Florida lead now, with California and Eastern regions ramping up. Grape tomato supply is steady from the southern U.S. and Mexico, with quality improving.
