Dear Chefs,
This past week brought an unexpected challenge when we lost power for a few days after the wind storms last weekend. Thanks to our backup generator, we were able to keep our coolers running and our harvested produce fresh until power was restored.
While we were fortunate to avoid losing produce, disruptions like this can have ripple effects on a farm. Power lost to irrigation timers, tunnel fans, and electric fences (not to mention more time spent managing unexpected challenges!) often means crops are set back, and those delays sometimes aren’t noticeable until weeks later. Farming is always a balance of adapting to whatever mother nature throws our way.
If you’re planning seasonal menu changes, now is a great time to feature the freshness of early summer!
